After the successful launch of direct flights from Victoria to Prince George last January, Pacific Coastal Airlines has announced that it will begin new non-stop service between Victoria and Kelowna in October.

The Vancouver based regional airline will operate flights between the two cities on a daily basis with twice daily flights on weekdays and a single daily flight on weekends. Flights are scheduled to commence on October 27, 2015 and will be operated by a Saab 340 aircraft.

Pacific Coastal operates two versions of the Saab 340 featuring stand-up cabins, a flight attendant, on-board service, washroom, and seating for between thirty to thirty four passengers. Pacific Coastal will compete directly with WestJet Encore, which currently operates one daily flight between Victoria and Kelowna using their fleet of Bombardier Q400 aircraft.

According to Spencer Smith, Vice President of Commercial Services for Pacific Coastal, the regional carrier expects to attract both business travellers and tourists on the new route. "We believe there is significant market opportunity for this new route and that these new non-stop flights will be well received in both communities and the surrounding areas," said Smith. "We expect to see a healthy mix of both business and leisure travellers on this scheduled service."

On weekdays, flights will depart Victoria at 7:30am and 5:30pm, while the return flights will depart Kelowna at 9:00am and 6:55pm. The flight time is approximately one hour and five minutes with fares starting at $147.23. The flight schedule is ideal for business travellers, who now have the option of making a day trip to either city.

With new non-stop flights from Victoria to Kelowna and Prince George, Pacific Coastal will now be stationing one of its Saab 340 aircraft permanently at Victoria International Airport. The new Victoria to Kelowna route joins Pacific Coastal's growing network of 65 destinations throughout British Columbia. The regional carrier has been serving British Columbia for nearly forty years.
